1.Location and Access

The Kalemale Project area is located on the eastern side of Lake Victoria (Figure 1). The main paved road between Mwanza and Musoma passes through the western corner of the project area. Access is via a number of all weather dirt roads that transect the various licences.

2. Physiography, Climate, Vegetation and Water

The area is typically flat lying with occasional hills dotting the landscape. Savannah style vegetation of grasslands and scattered woodland, interspersed with subsidence farms cover the area. Black cotton soils (mbuga) cover the northern part of the project area. A number of perennial streams transect the licences and drain westwards to Lake Victoria. The Serengeti Plains lie to the east of the Project area. The climate is tropically humid with an alternative wet (March to April and from October to December) and dry season.

3. History of the property

Regional exploration has been carried out in the District from the 1920s. Geosurvey International undertook an aeromagnetic survey across the region during 1977-1980. A geological map of the Lake Victoria Goldfields on a 1:1,000,000 scale was compiled by Barth in 1990.

Geocan Resources undertook geological mapping and ground magnetometer surveys on Prospecting licence numbers 2910-2004, 2747-2004 and 3006-2005 with soil geochemical sampling across 2910-2004 during 2008-2009. A number of known artisanal sites is present.

4. Regional Geology

The Project area is largely underlain by the Archaean Nyanzian Supergroup suite of granitic rocks. Patches of greenstone rocks, comprising of meta-volcanic and meta-sedimentary units occur as patches within the granitic terrain.

6. Exploration Strategy

Soil sampling has been undertaken on Prospecting licence 2910-2004 in which a cluster of gold-in-soil anomalies was delineated over meta-volcanic rocks close to the granite contact. A number of single value anomalies was noted within the granite.

Soil sampling is to be undertaken across non-mbuga covered areas in the other prospecting licences in conjunction with detailed mapping. Follow-up gradient array surveys will be prioritised over soil anomalies prior to undertaking regional coverage. Further exploration will depended upon delineating suitable targets from the soil and geophysical surveys.
